Sound City
In January 2012, Rick was interviewed by Dave Grohl about his experiences at Sound City studios for the Dave Grohl directed ‘Sound City’ film documentary which chronicles the legendary Van Nuys, California studio and many of the bands and artists who recorded hit records there. Rick also co-writes and records the song ‘The Man That Never Was’ with Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters for the film’s soundtrack, ‘Sound City: Real To Reel”.
In late winter/early spring 2013, Rick hits the road with the ‘Sound City Players’ for live show across the US and in the UK, along with Foo Fighters Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear along with Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Lee Ving of Fear, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Corey Taylor of Slipknot and more to promote the release of the film. Venues include Sundance Film Festival, The Palladium in LA, Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, The Forum in London, England, SxSw Music Festival, plus TV appearances on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and the ‘Ellen’ show. During Rick’s segment of the show, Rick performed several of his hits with Foo Fighters as his backing band, including ‘Love Is Alright Tonite’, ‘I’ve Done Everything For You’, ‘Jessie’s Girl’, along with the FooFighters/Rick Springfield collaboration, ‘The Man That Never Was’. Dave Grohl tells crowds that performing ‘Jessie’s Girl’ with Rick Springfield completes another item on his bucket list. Dave also coins the term of endearment, “Ladies and Gentleman… Rick F#$@ing Springfield!”.
